Tsunami Buoy Maintenance

Special Purpose Vessel ‘Pacific Conquest’ was chartered to support the servicing of two Tsunami monitoring buoys located west of the southern tip of New Zealand. Equipment was loaded at FMG’s Gladstone facility for the 7-8 day transit to NZ. Technicians boarded the vessel at Bluff NZ, and were accommodated aboard while the buoys were located, retrieved, serviced, and redeployed. The vessel’s 10T rear A-frame and 8T deck crane were utilised for deployment and retrieval, with additional restraint systems introduced to prevent damage to the buoy’s fragile FRP outer shell.
